"Harvest" (Devon and Cornwall)

The smooth lift and flex
Of muscles… the sheen of sweat
Earning our daily bread

Blossom the cart-horse
Big as an icy mountain
Gentle as a lamb

Harvest ~ honest work
Feeding honest appetites
Winter's sustenance

Harvest Festival
An old sinner like me would sing
♫ Now all is safely gathered in ♫

After the harvest
Arms and back aching from toil
Still the cows to milk

One hundred cows wait
Outside the milking parlour door
I call them name by name

As the evening cools
Cattle share warmth and sweet breath
And milk for my tea
