"When We Were Young"

It is the same moon
That lit our faces, entwined hands
When we loved each other

When every touch and sigh
Was a wonder, a miracle
And a revelation

It is the same moon
That touched our hearts
When we were young

"Friday 13th December 2019"

Before 1948 and the founding of our National Health Service suicide among the elderly was common.
Without a Welfare State many feared “becoming a burden” upon their children
and chose to end their lives!
I fear we return to those “Good Old Days!”

Democracy has been crucified upon the Cross of Lies!
Honesty has been sold to the highest bidder!
Compassion has been sacrificed upon the Altar of Self Interest!
Truth has been washed away by the torrent of hatred!
Brotherhood has been consumed by xenophobia!
Like vermin from the gutter, those who fucked dead pigs
And burnt fifty pound notes in front of the homeless,
Jostle once again at the trough!

Once again Parliament will try to suppress the unions,
Pass laws to outlaw protest and free speech.
Goodwill to be dismissed as a Communist Plot.
Kindness will be seen as the Loonie Left
And Love? Well who will have time or energy for that
When “heat or eat” are upmost on so many minds!

So preventable deaths will rise,
Homelessness will multiply,
Child Poverty will increase,
Food Banks will run out of food,
Suicide will become a way of life!
Our Nurses will be pushed aside
And probably blamed for the crisis
In our Privatised National Wealth Service.
“For the few, but not the many!”

Schools will teach “He who lies wins!”
On their slates when they can’t afford paper.
Islanders will drown as the oceans rise
The Cayman Islands will sink into the sea
Under the weight of Ill Gotten Gains!
And as our planet dies you can all say,
“It can’t be my fault. I voted Tory!”

May all your Gods and Goddesses forgive you!
I never will!
When Suicide becomes
Once more,
A way of life!
