Yesterday I sat
Where Neville Shute’s father prayed
In that little church at Egloshale
I wonder if he imagined
His son’s words would fly around the world
Just as his son did
Uniting Cornwall with Dublin
With Burma and Malaya
And his beloved Australia
And who was
Just like my nephew Andy
Another of Wadebridge’s best loved sons

ReplyDeleteI buy dog biscuits
And funeral clothes
Pleasure and pain
Dark winter road
Brings death to one
Sorrow to so many
I have buried my dead
And shed my tears
But Oh the burden of these years
Too tired to eat
Too exhausted to sleep
The Hungry Ghosts return
